Previous NASA GIRLS participants are ineligible for this year’s program.

Proof of student’s US citizenship and enrollment in grades 5-8 (including home school equivalent) will be required if accepted into the program.

Any US citizen anywhere in the world is eligible. There is no requirement to be located in the US mainland or US territories.

The student must be in grades 5-8 in the Fall of 2013. Rising fifth graders (As of Fall 2013) are eligible. Rising 9th graders (As of Fall 2013) are not eligible.

Parents who want to submit for more than one student may either apply for each child in a different parent’s name or you may note it in your name entry. Example: Jane-2 Smith for the second entry. We will tell you which name was selected and you will need to know which child it matches.

Applicants will be chosen in a lottery system.

The number of accepted applicants is TBD.

Notifications will be sent on or around July 3, 2013 to ONLY those accepted. If you do not hear by July 8, you were not selected in the random lottery.

Students MUST be available for at least one hourly session for each week from July 8-August 11, 2013. Any student who is enrolled in a summer camp or has family travel plans during an entire week in that time frame and cannot connect via Skype or Google Chat is ineligible and encouraged to try again next year. The exact date and time of the session is flexible per week and will be arranged between the mentor and the family. These exact times and dates are NOT available before hand.

An adult over the age of 18 is required to be present during each session. Any session with only the student present will be cancelled and rescheduled. Repeated violation of this rule will result in termination of the student’s participation.

Questions regarding the programs may be directed to hq-women@nasa.gov.
